Kitale, Kenya — March 19, 2025 — Edutab Africa, an edtech company that offers digital learning solutions, is excited to announce its generous funding from the National Geographic (NatGeo) Society for a key foundational skills project on environmental conservation through coding education. The project, commencing in March 2025, aims to explore what children can creatively design and build using Scratch Open source tool products that focus on environmental conservation.
“Through classroom observations, I’ve witnessed the transformative impact of empowering teachers to bridge technology and environmental conservation. Watching young minds use coding to innovate inspires hope for a more sustainable future.” Michael Mumbo, NatGeo Explorer.
The Programming in Scratch for Environmental Conservation at Foundational Skill Level project will emphasize waste management, biodiversity preservation and sustainable resource use through scratch-based animation and games addressing environmental issues like deforestation, pollution, and recycling.
“Environmental conservation is not just a necessity; it is an urgent call to action for humanity to safeguard the planet for future generations,” said Lazarus, Edutab Africa’s Programs Manager. “This funding holds the potential to amplify our efforts in raising awareness and fostering a culture of sustainability among young minds.”
The project will include student-centred learning and Teacher Professional Development (TPD) training through online courses and offline mobile resources to simulate real-world environmental challenges. Through this, Edutab Africa will promote both digital literacy and environmental stewardship.
