Introduction

Skills for Inclusive Digital Participation is a British Council program that aims to help people from all backgrounds, including those with disabilities or limited access to technology, effectively use digital tools and resources.

Project Description

Since 2021, Edutab Africa worked with the British Council in Kenya to develop Digital Literacy content for the Skills for Inclusive Digital Participation project (SIDP). The project aimed to ensure that marginalized groups get the opportunity to participate in the changing digital world.

Services Provided

  • Developing training manuals: For educating the trainers on basic digital, intermediate and e-commerce skills.
  • Training Community-Level Trainers: Edutab trained Community-Level Trainers (CLTs) to deliver the sessions to members of vulnerable communities identified by the British Council.

Results achieved

Increased digital literacy: Through improved access to digital gadgets and facilities, individuals build on skills such as cyber security, digital responsibility, research and information technology fluency.

Inclusion and empowerment: Young people and women are not left behind due to lack of digital access. SIDP ensures that every individual acquires an equal opportunity in the digital world regardless of their age, location or gender.

Enhanced digital technology: Achieved through training CLTs and creating digital literacy content.

Conclusion

The collaboration between Edutab Africa and the British Council in Kenya for the  SIDP yields positive outcomes in promoting digital inclusion and empowerment. The project has enhanced the digital skills and technology access of marginalized people located in regions like Nairobi and Mombasa.
